Kayla

When I used to work as a therapist in a school with some really tough kids, I worked with this great woman named Dale.  Dale was a teacher at our program and I have to say I NEVER once saw her lose her cool.  Hard to do around the population we worked with, believe me! She has such a gentle way with the kids and yet commanded respect as well.   Every once in a while Dale would bring her daughter Kayla in with her to help out with something or just because.  Kayla was this little kid who always smiled and was sort of quiet.  Flash forward to today and  I have just photographed her senior photos.  I can’t believe how quickly time has gone and what a beautiful young woman she has grown into.  I can’t stop thinking of her as the small child she was!

It was such a pleasure to see her grown and also to get to spend some time with her mom again.  I miss all my old colleagues so much and I was VERY happy when Dale got in touch with me for Kayla’s photos. Thank you Dale and Kayla!

Isabel and Sara

I loved this session. Okay, I know I say it every time. But I mean it every time too! Each session is different for too many reasons to name- even if they are with repeat clients! But this one was special because it celebrated a grandparent’s love for their granddaughter and her best friend. Isabel was visiting her grandmother for a few weeks here in Marblehead, and for the last week of her stay her best friend Sara came to stay. Isabel’s grandmother is a VERY generous soul and she wanted to give the gift of photographs to her granddaughter. She realized how important your best friend is at 15 and wanted the girls to have a “tangible” memory to hold onto throughout their lives. Something to remember what was important to them in this moment. She took out her fun jewelery and giant hats and we had fun. We had the session at her house since that location held the most meaning for them. Here are a few of the images…thank you so much Isabel and Sara!

Class of 2011 High School Senior Model Search

I am so excited! I love photographing all ages but there is just something special about Juniors and Seniors in High School (and no, it’s not because I don’t have to run after them as fast as I can like I do with a 3-year-old! Although that part is nice too. :) ). They just have this “aura” about them as if they know the whole world is open and waiting for them. It translates amazingly well into photographs!

Okay….for the model search:

I am looking for positive, outgoing, and energetic high school juniors who will be graduating from any high school in Boston’s North Shore area and in 2011 (Marblehead, Swampscott, Nahant, Beverly, Salem, etc). This is your chance to have your senior portraits taken for FREE and earn amazing photo rewards! Signed model release will be required. The process is very selective and we will only choose one senior model per high school. If you’re interested in finding out more, please fill out this form. Deadline to apply is May 31st.

How to pick a GOOD photographer

This post was written by a Rhode Island photographer Amy Ro. I first read the post through Kristina Young Photography (the photographer that did the best photos of our family BTW!) and now have seen it in several places.  I thought I would share it here too since it is such great information!  I hope it helps someone! Anna and P.J. and mom and dad

Another favorite session. I wonder how many favorites I can have! Again all the elements came together for our shoot….it was unseasonably warm, the light was beautiful and oh, did I mention how gorgeous this family is? I don’t think I could take a bad photograph of any of them. They belong in a magazine! And on top of all this, they were the warmest, kindest family to work with and get to know. Sorry your sneak peek took so long and thank you so much for our day!

What to wear in November!

Thought I would throw 2 sets of suggestions on here since I’m behind on everything else! Slowly, slowly I am catching up so those of you waiting for your sneak peek….it is coming soon! Today I photographed my sister and her kids. We are trying to do a surprise present for my parents for the holidays. Photographs of the grandchildren are all my mom and dad want so I have one more sister and a brother to go and then my own little guy. I will post the photos here after I get caught up. Hope everyone is enjoying this perfect fall day!

November 6 | What to Wear!

Just a few more suggestions! I think there is supposed to be a few flakes falling today!

Remember that we can do beautiful “lifestyle” photography right in your home as long as you have a room that gets a lot of natural light. Many times kids feel most comfortable in front of the camera when they are in a familiar place. Fall and Winter make for some great slanting sun coming in through your windows so don’t hesitate to book your session just because it’s chilly out there!

Leanne and her 2 Fabulous Kiddos!

I looovvveedd this shoot! I had the most willing subjects and had so much fun with them! This sister and brother duo were up for anything. And unlike most of my subjects that are under 3, these two could stay still for more than 2 seconds. Not only are they all beautiful (mom included!) but they are also so sweet. I hope I can “borrow” them from time to time when I need models to practice with! It was so nice to see you Leanne and to meet your great kids. I am so sorry Craig couldn’t make it but maybe next time! I have included a gigantic sneak peek for you!!

  • About Jennifer Shore Photography

  • As long as I can remember, I have loved being connected to kids. I always knew that I would have a life working with children in some form. Since my other big interest has been human behavior, I ended up with a formal education in Child Development / Family Relations and a master's degree in clinical social work. As a school therapist for children with emotional and behavioral special needs, it was still possible for me to see beauty in even the most difficult and disturbed child. Luckily right around the time I was doing this work, I was also exploring my other favorite interest, photography.

One day I decided to bring a camera into work. The results were amazing. The children loved to see themselves in photographs and I LOVED to take pictures of them. With the help of my photography teacher and best friend, photographer Andrew Xenios, I ended up having an exhibition of the kids I worked with. The pictures seemed to capture the essence of each person; even the most troubled child was still beautiful. From there, it was just a natural progression to become a portrait photographer.

The fact that I am just a big kid myself has helped me gain a wonderful perspective on children and their families. Photographing children provides me with the opportunity to show others the joy I see inside every one of them. This is what I want for my clients, to capture the moments when they feel most childlike, most at ease; as these are the moments when our true beauty is revealed.
